My company made the decision to increase my roles and responsibilities in this capacity due to the opportunities we see in the letterpress printing industry, and hope that our sophisticated and powerful Open Source processes help Lunalux to increase their brand visibility and online functionality while helping to keep their initial investment and subsequent recurring costs to an absolute minimum.
My responsibilities acting as the CTO for Lunalux for the last three years have included:
* Acting as lead systems integration specialist for their hybrid network of Mac OS X design workstations, aging (yet powerful) telecommunications and printmaking infrastructure, and more recently, several major investments in best-of-breed, low-cost server technology based on OpenBSD, as well as many other Open Source toolkits compatible with Mac OS X and the other entrenched technologies Lunalux relies upon for their daily operations.
* Deploying a robust, user-friendly, and overall quite affordable Virtual Private Networking solution based on the excellent, cross-platform, Open Source project, OpenVPN.
* Enhancing Lunalux's web presence by taking advantage of modern Open Source solutions. increasing their brand visibility by providing the store owner with a steady stream of high-quality web traffic, allowing Lunalux to create high value relationships with their customers both online and off, and has reaped the rewards inherent in building a regular web audience consisting of clients loyal to both the charming brick-and-mortar physical storefront, as well as clients who have been attracted to the store's regularly updated web offerings.
* Taking the lead role in designing, architecting, and deploying a modern, secure e-commerce solution for their wholesale and retail product line. This project, though still in the beta-testing phase, has proven the value of making incremental, long-term investmests in Open Source technology.
Our strategic position for this project has been to leverage the highly sophisticated and quite affordable Zen Cart e-commerce technology package, combined with a modern, robust Content Management System (CMS), coupled with Lunalux's outstanding design portfolio, making Lunalux products available to merchants and consumers worldwide, at globally competitive prices.
